Not sure where to put this, but here goes anyway. My friend bought car insurance from Tesco and they've asked him for proof of his no claims, he said he had five but realised he actually only has four - and not til June. It was a genuine mistake - so will Tesco just put his premium up or could they cancel it and keep the �500 they've already taken?? help!

Since one year's no-claims-bonus amounts to 10% of the calculated premium, in all probability they'll simply inform you in due course that there's a slight discrepancy with your friend's NCD, and they have to charge a little more to account for the difference in the premium. In these days of cut-throat commercial competition, I can't believe that any experienced Customer Services Manager with a High Street company would want to cancel an otherwise legitimate policy, lose a good customer and leave a bad taste in your mouth (and that of all your friends and relatives) for the sake of a minor mistake and about �50...!!
If I read this correctly your friend has actually only got 3 years NCD, but told Tesco he had 5 years. I can't see them overlooking that completely so although I agree with TommyC that they won't (and can't) cancel the policy and keep his �500, I would expect them to ask for the difference. By the way, at worst they would have to return the unused portion of the premium, and I do think that's highly unlikely anyway. Good luck to him.
