Can you use mac speakers on a pc and vice versa? If not, then why not?

Yep should'nt be a problem if the connection is a standard phono socket.
Sorry to sound pedantic but the connection isn't a phono socket but a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug...a phono in hi-fi terms is the red and white plugs used in the back of an amp to connect up things like a CD player.

But the jist of the answer is right.

Yeah thats what I meant.
They can be phono as well, like the connectors on my speakers. You tend to find the more expensive you go, the better the connection type. Either way, the answer to the question is still a "yes".
