. . . if our beloved, over-worked and much over-criticised Editor used her blog to explain things like why the maximum size of posts has gone down from 2000 characters to just 1700?
I had problems posting the other day and had the message about having more than 2000 characters. I chopped loads off, tried again and then I was telt I had more than 1700. I wasn't a happy loon, maybe it's something to do wi the preview feature for answers.
I was puzzled even when the maximum was supposedly 2000. That was because the character-counter on my computer certainly did not agree with the one AnswerBank uses. Many's the time I've posted a response only to have it rejected on length. On checking, I frequently found that my offering was well below what AB was claiming. Nevertheless, I of course hacked things down to fit. Whose counter was wrong?
those apostrophes look dialectical to me... you might have trouble fitting them into a Queen's English sentence without taking anti-rejection drugs, though I expect you could use them with slang.
Our Techy decreased the word length as a temporary measure while working on other AB developments which required him to do so. We also dropped the profanity filter for the same reason.
We did not inform the site because we did not plan on this development phase to last so long and not a significant amount of people write such long posts!
The character length will go back to 2000 as soon as our Techy has finished work.
