My postman is (apparently) bonkers ...

I was sat quietly - no noise, no radio, no music, not even the TV - just reading - waiting for a parcel that Royal Mail had said was 'out for delivery'.

I heard the noise of something being stuffed through the door - but nothing else - no knock, no bell.

It was only a magazine ...

... neatly wrapped around a 'while you were out' card - I nearly missed the card.

So I rushed outside and called after him - and he had my books in his bag - claimed to have knocked twice and also rung the bell and heard it ring - which is just not true.

It was a heavy parcel - he surely wouldn't have wanted to carry it any further than necessary - I wonder if they get some sort of bonus for non-delivered packets? Or a payment when they eventually re-deliver?

Strange that I have never had an Eastern postie or chatted to one during my chats to posties when out walking locally

Ain't been any on the round that I live on.
Me either, FF. All the posties I've spoken to have all spoken with an English accent.

The Amazon driver who has been delivering the many orders I've made recently isn't English but he's also not eastern European.

It was clearly a joke.
I'd be surprised if they wanted to redeliver. My postie almost always pushes it through (and I assume forges my signature), leaves it with a neighbour or pushes a note through saying ("left in bin" /"next to shed". I've never had a "while you were out" card while we were in.
All the 'Posties ' we get are British but all the courier drivers are East European /

I have, ff.

I know...by people who I would have thought knew the OP better than that.
So even the 'backtracking' post was joke?

The getting a bonus for not delivering wasn't a serious thought.
We had been waiting for a parcel for two days as delivery was stated for Thursday. Yesterday a lady who lives down the road at say number 72 came with a notice saying they had tried to deliver but no reply. She had been in all the time. She recognised our name as she worked at local paper shop. We live at say 51g. So why would delivery man put a card through 72? We eventually got parcel today. Just left outside. No card no doorbell rung.
