I'm on a tablet, and not finding it slow at all. There were a few wee glitches when I first came on...refreshing the page helped a lot.
I too don't care for the "open-ness" of the pages...but I don't like that in most printed media...prefer a more compact look.
I really think everyone needs to give themselves...and the site...a chance. It would be the same starting off on any new site...always seems a bit odd to start.
