Yamaha Outboard Engine

My husband wants to buy a repair manual for his Yamaha 9.9hp 2 stroke outboard engine, but he's unsure of the year and model. There are standard codes he's found on the net that supposedly let you work out the engine year, but none seem to suit the numbers he's found on the engine, which might be becasue it is an older engine.

The Serial number is 9.9D 682C L 364619

Is anyone able to shed light on the year, or suggest somewhere that I can find it myself. I've contacted Yamaha, but have so far had no reply.

there is a book by clymer that you can buy from a chandler or on the internet, that will cover all your needs, i use them all the time and find them excellent, also search boats and engines on ebay.for clymer
