Hi,

I've been asked to make canapes for a children's tea party, has anyone got any ideas, apart from the usual sausage rolls and cheese and pineapples on sticks.

Many thanks

i made some food for a kids party the other week i just made them, pizza, garlic bread sticks, hotdogs in rolls, pitta breads and lots of dips they loved it made them feel grown up

i worked as a chef for a catering company and we often did food and canapes for children.

we made mini fish goujons with string chips in a tiny cardboard cone, mini bangers and mash, mini burgers, cheese straws, bang-bang chicken, mini chocolate profiteroles, mini choc ices, fudge, etc

hope it goes well

Doubt I should suggest this but what about marshmallow kebabs with melted chocolate? or make some up with fresh fruits - bana, strawberry, cherry etc.

Make a pizza using chicken as the base not bread dough - flatten out a chicken breast, top with tom. paste/sauce and add toppings. Cook for 10 mins in hot oven and slice to serve.

Little strips of chicken on a cocktail stick with halved cherry tomatoes or button mushrooms.

Tortilla wraps - make small bite sized strips from one large tortilla and fill with cream cheese, paprika, salady stuff - whatever you think they will eat.

Ham and cheese on toast - butter the underside of some bread and place on a rack. top with cream cheese, pineapple and ham bits and cook 7 mins in hot oven . Serve hot or cold.

Pin wheel bites - butter some bread add a 'melting' cheese and some tomatoe. Roll up into pin wheels, bake for 5 mins. Slice into bite sized bits.

Really sweet one: Melt some butter and marshmallows in a pan, and add some chopped dried fruit - dates, apricots etc. Add a load of rice crispies. Pour the mix into a tray and chill 'til set. Cut to slices and serve.

..make some sandwiches and cutthem out with novelty cookie cutters, e.g stars, teddys, etc...(you can eat the scrappy bits for your lunch) ..I made these every year for my daughters party , the kids love them much more than boring old triangle sarnies...
My kids love picnic eggs and also Ritz biscuits with Philadelphia cheese spread on them,
