Had an email from the above , advising me that-

'' as you may be aware we have been attempted to contact you regarding an outstanding tax refund to the value of £ 442.25......''

Quite apart from anything else - been attempted ? lol

I once got an email from the Ryoal Bank of Scotland.

This is a Scam. And the grammar mistake is deliberate to weed out the intelligent people who would know it was wrong.

HMRC don't send out emails....They ALWAYS write to you, so a definite scam....I would forward it to them to investigate.

I have had a lot of tax clients contact me regard this e-mail. My first question to them is always; "So when did you give HMRC your non-business e-mail address?" and at this point a long pause is normally followed by a change of subject!

Yogi-bear is right. They can barely get letters right, so thank god they don't e-mail too!

Yes, HMRC always use letters. A couple of years ago they wrote to me announcing a refund of £330, which I promptly banked.

A week later, another letter, admitting an error and demanding £330.
