My friend has an Acer laptop operating Windows 10. The internet connection was working fine till about 10 days ago. Now the internet light on the TalkTalk CAAFD8 router occasionally shows a green light but then changes to red. I've tried re-setting her router this morning & although it briefly showed a green light, it then went back to red. In Network Settings it shows"WiFi doesn't have a valid IP address". I really don't know how to overcome this for her. Could someone through me in the right direction to get her back online? I'll be seeing her again tomorrow & would like to help if I can. Thank you!
Release and renew IP address for your computer:
a. Press Windows key + X and select “command prompt (admin)”.
b. Type ipconfig /release and hit Enter.
c. Then type ipconfig /renew and hit Enter.
d. Type Exit and hit Enter.
If the 'Internet' light is red then it strongly suggests a line fault. Contact TalkTalk for advice (possibly after trying to connect via an Ethernet cable first - If that fails then it's definitely nothing to do with the WiFi).
Thanks Chris. Not sure if she's got an Ethernet cable but sure I've got one somewhere. She wouldn't even know what an Ethernet cable is lol. Find it odd that the internet light is sometimes green then just suddenly changes back to red. I will try my best to help her tomorrow
I had a similar problem, turned out to be a damaged connection where the charger is joined to the electric socket - the wire had got twisted and would sometimes work if you fiddled with it. You could not see a break but I got a replacement cable from Maplins and it solved the problem.
