Hi
I live in Finland and have a Sony 50kdl809c .The problem I have is that I have a new antenna that has been set up great ( I only live 3kms-2miles from the source) and I have a pvr box connected and the picture I receive is great ,really great -now if I disconnect the pvr box and run the antenna straight to the TV,on the set up menu I have 98% strength and 92 % quality -about the same as through the pvr -but when I select a channel it says that it is encrypted and the screen is blank with no sound. The reason I am on here is that the seller has told me that my TV does not "accept " the channels without some sort of decoding box (pvr) .Is that bull or is he correct ?
Thanks

Hence your TV set can't receive local transmissions in its native state. However the PVT has it's own internal tuner which is capable of doing the 'receiving' part of the job, with your TV set then functioning simply asa monitor to display the output from your PVR.
