Is there a regulation saying that the ring main 2.5mm2 cable should be covered by a metal or plastic strip?

I've heard that this is not a requirement if the cable is buried in plaster (or under floorboards, etc).

That's a very useful document, Billy. The diagrams to explain the 'no go' zones for buried cables are nice and clear.
I think it's taken from or at least an interpretation of the diagrams from the IEE On-site guide if memory serves me correctly.
It's been a while since I was in that game, but I always enclosed cable in conduit if it's going down the walls, and if it's not straight, the conduit had to be steel. The idea being if you needed to rewire, you wouldn't need to track the walls. That is probably a regulation now.
