I used to work in a Sports Shop, and I would always say that Running Shoes are your best bet - fantastic cushioning / very lightweight. Downside is they can be a bit on the pricey side.
Adidas I found to be quite narrow, and Asics, New Balance & Nike were a slightly wider fit, but try on a few pairs, and, if you can, try on a few different makes (Depending on which shop you go into) - Brooks/Mizuno/Saucony if possible.
My local branch of Sports Direct have a machine for measuring and scanning your feet. The results then help you choose the correct type of trainers. I used the facility and got a really comfy pair that I wear for work as I am walking about all day.
