declare a mis trial and start all over again

the jury I was on was subjected to shouts of
" it had better be not-guilty" as we went in
and we were asked if we wanted to continue ( we did )
The younger men wanted to go out and deal out retribution - [we didnt tell that bit to the judge.]

[completely anonymised - reports suppressed so there is no way of anyone finding out which case it was - or what we did .....crimes towards juries are incredibly difficult to prove as a result of the ban on discussing what goes on]

well any jury letter to the judge has to be read out to the lawyers and defendant

so they ( defendants if one accepts that the Crown is unlikely to try to bribe a jury ) would have had notice. And the lawyers dont put up with sort of nonsense I can tell you

Why waste public money on a re-trial if he has the lawful statute to carry on without a jury backing him? It would seem he had the ingredients and evidence of attempts to bribe the jury. Good for him

I had no idea that this was possible. Well done Judge, although the evidence was overwhelming, and I have no doubt that a Jury would have done the same. Saved the cost of a re-trial.

The Judge was absolutely correct, if they had a retrial I am sure the same thing would have happened again.
I expect to see a long sentence as a deterrent to others.

Because had I put "just" it would have put some ABers through all the trouble of trawling through Google to try and find an example where non-Asians had carried out similar scams.

One has to ask if that is in fact true?

You have managed to find an Asian-based newspaper which not unreasonably comments in the Asian involvement in this particular type of crime, but that does not indicate, much less confirm, that Asians form the majority of people involved in it.
