My 2007 Fiat Punto has recently passed it's MOT,however on the advisory slip it states " Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases ( flexi pipe )".
Is this something I should have seen to with some urgency or will it likely be ok until my next MOT. Also where exactly is the Flexi pipe on the exhaust located.
The problem with minor exhaust leaks is they can quickly become major exhaust leaks if not attended to. The police, in my area anyway, tend to stop motorists with noisy exhausts and "insist" the repair is carried out quickly. If it is a small hole exhaust tape will cure it quickly and cheaply, if left, the flexi pipe will have to be replaced, a more time consuming and expensive job.
The car engine rocks on its mountings when revved, so a flexi-pipe is inserted between the engine and the (relatively rigidly fixed) exhaust pipe to avoid the exhaust pipe breaking. In theory if there is an exhaust leak the fumes can seep into the engine compartment and quietly send you off to sleep, or death. It's worth trying to block the leak, if you can, but access is often awkward. Don't panic about it as it's only classed as a minor leak but keep your eye on it.
