Can anyone tell me what the 5 means in my Mums tax code please? I know that the L is lower rate, but surely the 5 doesn't mean that she only has a personal allowance of £50! Mum is 82, and a widow.
Sorry it's in CB, but I didn't know where else to put it!

Whenever we get a new tax code they always enclose an explanation of how it's calculated. Did your mum not get this?
