A Chief Constable Leicestershire Police
Hello Simon ( wrote PP) I think you are cc of Leicester
and in charge of the govt’s lamentable Prevent strategy
I include my comment on Prevent which has been out there on the internet for quite some time Jul 2014
I notice you are a white anglo saxon ( as I am ) and I really feel you should be talking to some of people ( erm Arabs and so on) that this project is aimed towards and find out how they feel. I have just heard on the radio that in fact some have volunteered their opinion to you but as I found – no one is listening
the Mohd Haneet I refer to is
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muhamed_Haneef
where the police systems of the world didnt exactly score highly. I have also copied and pasted my comment below this in case the effort to find it is too much
I accessed it when he (MH) had been booted out of Oz – and had been denied appeal as he had to be physically IN the country (Oz) to bring the case and they would not let him back in as he had been deported as a terrorist – so no appeal no justice no nothing.
Prevent course I went to was at my previous Hospital CMFT (Manchester) so poor Dr Haneef’s troubles were well known and talked about by the foreign medical graduates employed there . and yes or no they [facilitators] were completely uninterested in feedback......and wouldnt even give an address to email to. (yeah that completely uninterested)
so I have chosen you .... three years later – well things move slowly here
I think the facilitators took the view that Prevent didnt NEED feedback – it was perfect as is
I dont think I told the arab doctors to note down their points in order of awfulness as there didnt look as tho there would be anyone to listen
I think I took the prevent course soon after I retired in Jan 2012

Comment on: How to spot domestic extremists
An article about how landlords have an anti-terrorist tole
I am a private landlord and registered on this site to make this comment. I voluntarily went thro the anti-terrorist Prevent training at my ex employer by invitation.
There is no doubt the govt are terrified of what could be termed 'terrorist entryism' in the educated sector. This is because one of the convicted Glasgow terrorists was a registered junior doctor.
The General Medical Council enthusiastically claimed it had an anti-terrorist function at a time it was quite clear it should concentrate on its core functions - to wit register and regulate doctors. I commented at the time that if the GMC had an anti-terrorist function “then London would burn.”
The Prevent presentation is done by facilitators which just means that they dont understand their course material and havent thought about it and since they are facilitators have no intention of starting to do so. When I challenged the accuracy of their material they just shrugged their shoulders and said it was nothing to do with them
All the Arabs gasped at the inaccuracies in the material. They relied on me as an Anglo-Saxon arabic speaker ( I worked there ) to point out inaccuracies which were ignored or just not understood, in proper English.
Specifically Muhamed Haneef was portrayed as dangerous sleeper and fellow traveller, whereas he was a junior doctor in Oz who was fired, deprived of his medical licence and deported from Oz before they realised he was innocent of all charges. There was very little recognition he was very badly treated, or that the idea was to track down the bad boys and not stigmatise and then punish just anyone.
