Croupline was lovely, very thick and treacly, it was made in a seedy looking factory more or less where St Peter's Way runs now, just before the old Burnden Park, of blessed memory! Which reminds me of our school sports field that would now be in the middle of St P's way, my God didn't the wind blow across the valley, now that I don't miss.

Chocolate pie. It was a sweet shortcrust pastry with a really light mousse filling and a swirl of weird but yummy plastic cream on top. I've been given recipes over the years but they are never the same. I would kill to recreate it.
Being sent out in the morning armed with a plastic bucket to pick blackberries. Coming home with a bucket load of blackberries and scratches, (the best ones were always in the middle of the thorns), then helping mum to make jam, pies and tarts.

The best bit was eating all the homemade goodies.
I remember my sister knocking on the neighbours' doors asking to take the baby out in the pram - and they let her. She must have been 8 or 9, can't see that happening today. She preferred real babies to dolls.

Barley sugar twists. It would be sucked to a point so sharp it could be used as a weapon
Cutting a mars bar into five equal pieces (and trying to bag the biggest) when sweets were on ration until around 1952.

Mum's homemade chocolate cake with melted chocolate on the top, the joy and excitement of Christmas morning and the lovely smell of a real Christmas tree and of course I miss my lovely Mum and Dad. Wish I could go back sometimes.
I went to school on my own from the second day - my brother took me on the first
