When I was a teenager, and in my early 20's, I backpacked around Europe with my YHA card and a Interail ticket. Those holidays were wonderful. One year I was in the Arctic circle at Narvick in Norway and 4 days later I was on the beach at Nice ! I met people who I am still friends with all these years later. In my late 30's and 40's I drove coast to coast in America, on...
Germany Cyprus and France when my dad was posted there in the 50s
A lot of places whilst I was working. Iran when the revolution was going on.
Saudi Arabia doing palaces for local governors.
North South America and Russia doing ship repair before collapse of communism.
Singapore before they started knocking China town down.
Spain Portugal and Greece on holidays.
But Id like to go back to Valencia on Fallas week.
done practically everywhere round the mediterranean, but need to do Italy more thoroughly. Done China, Thailand, Hong Kong. Done California, West Indies, Iceland, Ireland, Russia, Germany, Switzerland, Bulgaria, Albania. I now fancy Mexico, Cuba or Crete. But I don't want to see stuff I've seen before.
Loved Uruguay, Argentina and Costa Rica, am very fond of Spain, but the place that always drags me back is Botswana, just takes me a long time to save up to go each time.
The only place I'd really love to visit is New Zealand, I'm not bothered about anywhere else that I've not been, maybe New York, possibly the north of Scotland and some of the islands. And maybe a south Atlantic cruise, which we nearly did but bottled out as it meant we'd be away for three months which at the time seemed a lifetime.
Yes, I sailed around the world in the sixties. It is a bit of a problem as I don't have the same desire to go on long-distance holidays as my partner these days.
