Samsung J5 2016. Want to download WhatsApp for photo sharing. Asking for a PIN number but I don't have one ... Do I need a Google account? Not asking for password. Sorry not technical... Thanks all.

When you install WhatsApp, it asks for you mobile number. It then sends a number via SMS, asks for permission to access your messages, and reads the verification code from the SMS.
This is to confirm that you've entered the correct phone number.
So when it asks for the verification code, you just need to wait for the SMS to arrive and be accessed by the program, which will fill it in automatically.

Every app I try to load, it just asks for a pin, not a phone number. New phone, what am I missing ?

Have you got your phone set up so that you need to enter the PIN that you use to unlock your phone to download an app? It's a security measure to stop unauthorised downloads

He, I did have the phone lock on and I tried to use my pin but it didn't work. I have now created a google account and am about to ask another question!! Thanks all
