Hi,
i have an old sony video 8 camcorder. i want to transfer the tapes to the hard drive on my computer. I have an easycap dongle that I bought a couple of years ago, lost the cd that came with it, went online, it appears that it doesn't work with windows 10.. is there a programme, or do i need to buy something?
Thank you.

It probably won't work initially but the instructions here may well fix the problem:

Hi buenchico, thanks very much indeed for the info and site address. I tried several times, but nothing doing, so, next question, as i know you are the expert on all things techinical.
I have a DVD recorder, i know the camera will connect and play to the DVD player, and record onto DVD. can i connect the DVD player to the computer monitor or the desk top computer, so i can see whats happening, , the reason for this is i am trying to do it all on my computer desk, otherwise i have to plug the recorder into the TV, do the recordings, (i have 25 x 90 minute tapes to load,) which will stop people watching TV for eternity ,moan moan moan, until its all done. thanks again,
Annie.

Oh, hang on a moment. I've probably not really read your question properly. (Well, I have just come back from the pub!).
You need to look at what type of outputs are available on your DVD recorder (Scart, HDMI, RCA sockets, etc) and what type of inputs your computer accepts. Some modern computers have compatible inputs but many won't have. (If your computer has got input sockets for 'composite video' you shouldn't need the EasyCap dongle anyway. You just need suitable software, such as VLC, to record the input).
I'm sorry that my answer is rather vague but, without seeing the output sockets on your DVD player, and the input ones on your computer, it's impossible to provide a precise answer.

Thank you, i wish i had a pub nearby, my nearest is 3 miles away, along unlit country lanes and deep ditches either side of the road, not much fun when you've had a few. Mind you, you could drive totally pickled here in the backwoods of the fens and never get caught, police are busy in the town with the drunks.
I will try to hook the dvd up tomorrow.
Thank you.
