Yes
This is not something that has a generic answer - it depends entirely on your individual circumstances.

Contact a solicitor immediately for some advice.
HMRC can't take your house directly but they can apply to a court to have you made bankrupt (which nearly always means losing your home):

If they have refused your attempt at paying it off then that is because they believe that you can afford more - have you declared everything?
I would take Andy's advice now and contact a solicitor asap......If the answer to Islay's question is no, then you could try, through your solicitor even, making them a more agreeable offer on a payment plan, at least seeing what they would accept.
They are not going to accept a token offer, so your monthly payment must be quite high.....otherwise they will go after you.
They (HMRC) can demand immediate payment
and are not obliged to accept a payment plan

and yes you need a tax lawyer
who handled the case before ?

or is this the first stage where the HMRC have assessed you ?
in either case you need proper advice
for which you are gonna have to pay
