While living in Birmingham someone of Irish extraction was sometimes referred to as a Duck Egg. Anyone know why? I don't think it was an insult, as another appellation was bog trotter. Bog trotters earned their living by moving swiftly over peat bogs to cut the peat for fires. Going slowly would give that sinking feeling.
