Old videos

I have upgraded my film purchases from video to DVD, and will hopefully be getting a recordable DVD player to transfer all my TV-recorded programmes from tape to DVD. Question is what should I do with my old tapes after that when I won't need them any more? Is there an environmentally friendly way to dispose of them? Or should I give them away or something? They are cluttering up the house already as it is so once I have got all the TV shows on DVD I would rather get rid of them one way or the other.

Put all the "recorded off TV" VHS in a box and sell 10 for a pound, for example. If the price is cheap enough people will just buy them, it's not like 1 is that much...
Some people may just want them to record off TV, but then again some people might buy them just to watch something. It's actually quite fun to just watch what other people have recorded as it's a surprise what you see... a bit like a lucky dip...
Also, because of the cheap price people won't be annoyed if the quality sucks, you get what you pay for.
Boot fairs are also really good of condensing down your belongs, most of which you probably don't need (everyone is like this, don't take offense).

I buy tapes lucky-dip style. I'm trying to collect all the BBC2, TVS/Meridian and C4 channel idents of the last twenty years, but there are loads which are insanely rare. It's always good fun to find bits of long-forgotten programmes anyway, I've just turned up some old Chart Show stuff - remember those computer-icon graphics? Fantastic...
