How does my meter know when the off peak time starts? If we had a power cut, would the clock stop as well and therefore allow the off peak time to start later?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.The last property I lived in had a mechanical timer switch, was meant to operate from midnight to 06:00 however due to power cuts (and me pulling the company fuse to do some work) resulted in the timings being delayed by around 6 hours – and me gaining cheaper electricity from 6am to midday.
The meter readers were only interested in the meter readings, not the setting of the timer – which was clearly visible.
