Caught Speeding!
I've just opened a letter from Essex police. Apparently I've been caught doing 58mph in a 50mph zone on M25 near the Dartford Crossing. I remember the day - I'd dropped teen Smow at his dads and on way back my IBS started playing up with really bad stomach cramps and I was panicking as that's the sign I'm going to need a bathroom - very very soon!! I was worried sick I wasn't going to make it home as I know as soon as I get to the crossing I have 40 mins of driving left. I honestly didn't realise I'd gone over the limit though. Letter doesn't say what the fine or points will be so does anybody know?? It just encloses a form for me to admit or deny I was driver and to give my license details. What a start to the weekend : (

For speeds up to Limit +10% + 9mph (so 64 in a 50) and provided you have not done one in the last three years, you will almost certainly be offered a Speed Awareness Course. As has been said, around £100, half a day of your time and no points. Do not fail to reply to the request for driver's details within 28 days (failure to do so means a court appearance, a hefty fine, six points and insurance grief for about five years). Some insurers (Admiral and their associated brands) ask for details of Speed Awareness Courses to be declared so check with your insurer. I should not consider trying the "Alex Ferguson" defence. It rarely succeeds and is simply not worth the hassle when a course is almost certain to be offered.
