I was lucky in that several of the extra words stood out, for me at least, fairly clearly. Clear but not too difficult clues, and plenty of direction to an unambiguous finish. Good fun, and a few examples I hadn't met before. Many thanks, eXternal.

A Hearer's post sums up my thoughts about this puzzle exactly. I wonder if it was submitted with a specific date in mind? Great fun.

I'm hoping for a nice simple puzzle next week as I won't have much time for crosswords at Easter, but I fear this gentle romp means we'll get a stinker!

Well that was a bit of a wander in the dark.

Very late to hearing the clank of the dropping penny - but eventually a nice unambiguous gridfill and all the bits and bobs of the pre-ramble now parsed and understood.

eXcellent puzzle, eXpertly accomplished. I spotted the theme quickly, but teasing them all out took me a while. Each brought a smile.
