Ask not....

Can anyone tell me who originated the statement,
"Ask not what your country can do for you. Instead, ask what you can do for your country.
Please don't say it was JFK. I read once with whom it originated and it wasn't him.

Trouble is, I read a report that attributed the quote to George Bernard Shaw - a most unlikely person, I thought at the time. But it gave chapter and verse. I cut it out and put it in a very safe place. So safe I can't find it now. A search of Shaw's sites produced nothing and now it is annoying the hell out of me.
Guess I'm never going to find out for sure. Ah well, c'est la vie.
