Eldest grandson's 19th birthday on Wednesday so posted his card first class on Sunday so he would get it in plenty of time. Well, it didn't arrive until today and he is back at Uni in Glasgow. Absolutely furious - what are the Royal Mail playing at?
Not in Scotland hc, but even assuming the Royal Mail had a day off, surely first class should have arrived the next day or am I giving them too much credit?

This says no collections were made on Easter Monday, even in Scotland, so given that there wouldn't have been a collection on Sunday your post wouldn't have been collected until Tuesday. I think that given the long weekend there would have been quite a backlog so even if the first class service was as good as it used to be it's not too surprising that it didn't arrive Wednesday.
My experience now is that second class and first class arrive equally quickly (slowly)- second class service seems pretty good now with 2 days the norm for me
Maggie....there was no collection on Easter Sunday in my part of the world, nor was there on Easter Monday.....not sure about your area though.
My diary says that it was a B/H on Easter Monday, in the UK and Republic of Ireland, though this website said its not a B/H in Scotland ! ( not sure why ? )
I dont think you have any reason to rant at all, not only the fact that your card wouldnt have left the post box until Tuesday teatime vbecause of the Bank Holiday, but the fact that there are now literally thousands less posties nowadays and Im sure they would have had a backlog after the Easter weekend.
First class post is a con, just use second class - if everybody shunned first class perhaps Royal Mail would drop this stupid two-tier system. Important or valuable items can be sent by Special Delivery Guaranteed.
