The Birdcage is niceish :)
I have heard good things about the belgian monk: http://www.thebelgianmonk.com/index.html

some years ago, mind!
My brother rates Roger Hickman(?) for a smart meal. Cote has a branch in Norwich and is a pretty reliable chain.
If you head to Tombland (just next to the Cathedral) there are loads of eateries/bars etc. The side streets off Tombland have some really nice independent restaurants.

I quite like Mr Postles or the MadderMarket Kitchen.
The Adam and Eve near the Law courts is lovely.

Yeah, don't go there.
walnut tree shades ..good food upstairs..great music super atmosphere..down one of the lanes I think 2 up from Jarrolds opposite market...
The Belgian Monk (mentioned above) is nice but rather over-priced.

If you happen to be in Norwich in the evening (Wed to Sat), the Golden Star's food is excellent (and it's a really nice pub):

The lunchtime menu is far more basic (but still tasty)

If you enjoy Thai food though, the best place for lunch is The Vine. It's the smallest pub in the city, with an equally small restaurant upstairs but it's an absolute delight and the food is great:

(It's easy to find. Look for the Tesco on the edge of the market square and take the path that runs down the side of it. The Vine is just a short way along, on the right)
To fit in with the locals you should draw an eye in the middle of your forehead and point at over flying planes....
Hope you had a good lunch JJ.
