Safe Areas In New York

Going to rent on Airbnb for a week in New York in July. What would be a safe/good area that would also be convenient for touristy type stuff. We will have a rental car.

Will you need a car in New York? Expensive to park and good public transport links, unless you mean NY state beyond the city.

That rental car will just be a pin in the neck....as Zebo has said, there will be nowhere to park it, at least not inexpensively and why would you need a rental car in the middle of New York ? The traffic will be horrendous as well.

Would you need a car if you were in London for a few days ?
