My son needs to apply for an adult passport. (he had a childs passport when he was 14, hes now 21). On the passport website
https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-adult-passport/photos-and-documents-you-must-send
It states that when applying that you must send complete birth certificate and mother or fathers details (birth certificate/passport/passport number). Underneath that it gives details for applicants of immigrants. And then underneath THAT it says
//If you send documents relating to your father, you must also send your parents’ marriage certificate//
I'm not sure if the above ^^ relates to applicants of immigrants or if it means that everyone must provide parents marriage certificate.
Any idea? Thanks

After you send all your papers in you will still be asked to attend an interview . If this is too far from a main office an interview can be arranged nearer your home . You can check these new rules by checking at how do I apply for first time passport .
MY wife's application WAS a nightmare!
First of all the Passport help line told me 3 times that if she had a previous passport and was still identifiable from the photo on it she only needed to send in new photos and did not need them countersigned. I told them the passport was many years out of date but they still said she only needed a renewal not a 'first passport'.
We sent off the application only to have it rejected as they said an old Blue Passport was no longer accepted as a 'Previous Passport' and we did need to apply as a 'First Passport'
I complained that this was the opposite of what we were told by the helpline, which was true.
Then they rejected the photo as 'not suitable' even though it had been taken in a studio by a professional photographer specifically as a passport photo.
Next they rejected it again because the statement signed by the counter signatory would not 'scan' into their system. We had to get her to write and sign again! The lady was astounded as she told us she had signed literally 100s of them and never had one rejected before.
It took over 8 weeks to finally get the passport, when it finally arrived it was delivered by a woman in a Burka with her full face covered, which we thought was a bit 'off' after they had made such a point of the photo being exactly correct with no form of head cover!
Oh and they forgot to return the birth certificate and we had to phone them and ask for it to be returned!

wendilla, I live in stoke, my nearest passport office is in Liverpool. Looks like a train ride.....
In one conversation with the passport office the person I heard the official mutter something to the effect that 'we have to be a lot more careful these days as we have been caught out recently' I don't think he realised I had heard him!
