Saving What's On The Screen

How to I save what is showing on my pc monitor screen at any one time? I need to save either to view again later and/or print. I am using Windows 10 with all the normal updates.

Press the print screen key on the top of the keyboard. Next to F12 on mine.

Okay thanks, I can do that, but what's the next step? Where has screenshot been saved to?

Press 'Prt Scr' button on your keyboard. Open 'Paint' from the search bar. When Paint opens click Paste. Don't forget to Save it.

Are you seeking to save screen images that change (either videos or a succession of web pages that you've clicked through) or just a single image?

If it's only a single picture (whether that be of your whole screen or just part of it) Windows comes with it's own Snipping Tool built into it. You can access it from Start > All Programs > Accessories. (Hint: If you expect to use it a lot, pin it to the taskbar at the foot of your screen, so that you can access it with just a single click. To do so, go to Start > All Programs > Accessories and RIGHT-click on 'Snipping Tool', selecting 'Pin to Taskbar').

Using the snipping tool is fairly intuitive. You simply click-&drag to draw a rectangle around the part of your screen which you wish to capture. Then go to File > Save As to save the image to a location of your choice. (It's usually best to set 'JPEG' as the file type).

If you want to record your screen activity (as, for example, you click through different web pages), you'll need a special program to do it. There are hundreds of programs which can do so. See here for the best of the freebies:

The 'Print Screen' method mentioned above is largely redundant these days, as the Snipping Tool is far more flexible.

Pressing 'Print Screen' dumps a picture of the whole of your screen (including the taskbar at the bottom, etc) onto your computer's clipboard. You then need to go to a suitable program (such as Paint or even Word) and paste the image into it.

What I do MantaRay is just Copy (copy and paste) what's on the screen and then paste it in an email to myself. Easy Peasy. I have a file in my gmail of stuff I keep and I put it in there.

With W10 use the snipping tool, it's great.

The Snipping Tool is best.

However ALT + Print Screen will copy JUST the current main active window (the one that has cursor focus) that can then be pasted in to Word, Paint etc.
