whats the difference between an open prison and a normal prison?

An open prison is a stupid version of a closed prison! They should be kept behind closed doors - No tv, radios, etc........ Prison should be hell

So, Greedyfly, presumably you want prisoners to come straight out of "hell" and back into society without having undergone any attempt at rehabilitation?

Not exactly - but what is the point of putting them in prison if they can wander around and get free tv, and litterally not have to pay for anything they would on the 'outside'?? Rehabilitation does not mean they can have a free ride!

Without wanting to high jack the question. I would have to agree with Greedyfly on this one. Sure I agree part of prison life is to try and rehabilitate offenders but that doesnt seem to work too well given the number of reoffenders. In my opinion put them in for longer and in harder conditions at least that way the police won't be wasting time pulling in the same people time and time again. Its a little simplistic but I think there are those who will change for the better simply for being put in prison, those who will change with a little help and those who will never change.

I must point something out here; I am all for making life a living hell for murderers and rapists etc. But what for those who are either in prison because, say, they refused to pay a bill which everyone else would not have paid, or agrees with them not paying? And what percentage (a % we will never know) of people who are innocent, but in-prisoned? The level of severity of punishment should be down to the type of crime commited. It should never be a hell for all or nothing.

You either have faith in the justice system or you don't. If you break the law you must face the consequence what ever that is. I'm not talking about a prison being brutal but being a place where there are no privilages. You generally don't go to prison for not paying a bill and if you did then you would only been in there a couple of days or weeks.

surely it doesn't matter if one is in for a day or 20 years? i do not have any faith in our justice system, especially because labour is in power. ok better stop now or i might ramble on about them forever lol
