How do you mend a broken zip?

On one of our cushion covers, the fastener bit of the zip has become detached from one set of "teeth", so now it's uselessly going up & down one side of the teeth only. I've tried taking it all the way to one end and attempting to force the teeth back into the fastener, to no avail. Do I continue trying to do that, or is there some other method I don't know about?

You will probably have to replace the zip. Not a drastic job on a cushion cover. Take the old one out and take it to a fabric shop to get the right length. You may find it cheaper to buy a new cover in this day and age rather than the zip.

What I have done in the past is to take the zipper down as far as you can, then snip off the 'stop' carefully. It should then be easy to slide the teeth into the zipper to close the zip. You will have to oversew the ends of the zip to make sure it doesn't undo each time you use it.

you will need to take out enough teeth so that you can push the zip back onto track, then adjust so they are both the same length and pull all the way back down, then zip back up going fast so that it zips past the broken teeth, then sew over the teeth you have pulled out, the zip will never go back past that section again but you will only have a small area to get your cushion in and out. Hope this makes sense it is difficult to explain.

yes, you need and open end of the zip. you will have to unpick and stitching around it and thread the 2 through the zip at the same time, them sew back down.

think of it as though you are doing a coat up - thread 2 ends through and pull
