My wife was a Brownies leader , she used to take the Brownie pack on camping holidays but the 'tent' was a church hall , this sounds similar.
It had a lot of advantages no leaking tent , proper toilets and a kitchen. The church used to rent out the hall for less than it would have cost to rent pitches on a normal camp site.
Thrapston may be an ancient village (*laughs* a lot) but to me it's the location of a toilet on my route from Peterborough to the Midlands. At my age, you get to know the location and cleanliness of every toilet going............
