Points to a compass

Could someone please settle a 'Difference of opinion'? How many points are there on a compass? There are three of us arguing that it's 32, or 16, or 4. A decision would be welcome. Many thanks.

Not seen any with 32 points but the others are correct.

4 points - N,W,S,E
8 points - N, NW, W, SW, S, SE, E, NE
16 points - N, NNW, NW, NWW,W,SSW, SW,SWW, S,SSE, SE,SEE, E,NEE NE,NNE

I believe the 32 points is on the compass rose found on maps for navigation at sea?

You have your 16 points slightly wrong Squarebear.
N, NNW, NW, WNW, W, WSW, SW, SSW, S, SSE, SE, ESE, E, ENE, NE, NNE
and normally you go in a clockwise direction

Thank you very much for all your suggestions, and just to throw a spanner in the works, I have just been informed I should have written the question as stated, which was How many points does a compass HAVE. Does this make an iota of difference to the answer? I'm goimg with all the suggestions of 16 at present.
