Does anyone have any good book recommendations? Could you give me a brief summary of what its about and your thoughts on it to see if I will like it

Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.
Set in 1851(but written 1860s, date is key to action details), story of kidnap, sex trafficking, forced marriage, corruption, detective work, scams and swindling, horrific revenge, and triumph of justice. It moves you from ambient calm to surreal moments, shock to total astonishment, to humour to wild panic, outrage, right up to the astounding climax. Those Victorians on drugs or what? A page turner! Makes 'Line of Duty' look like it was half asleep.

Any of Anne Tyler's books. My favourite is Ladder of Years. It's about a woman on a family holiday who gets up from the beach one day for a walk and just keeps walking, taking the family's meagre spending money with her, and starting a new life as an independent woman.
