Kitchen Ceiling
Well I have had a time of it tonight - I washed my bathroom floor last night really well and thought when my carpet on the landing was a "wee" bit wet that some water had gone into it - anyway to cut a long story short I had another leak from the bathroom that penetrated landing carpet, into back bedroom carpet and kitchen ceiling.
This was all at 9.00 tonight when landing carpet became sodden - my neighbour came over (so so lucky to have him) - he had to pull a part of the kitchen ceiling down to get at the leak which he said had been leaking for some time. He got it to stop after a torrent of water came down on him.
I am left with soaking carpet everywhere, a hole in the ceiling just about everything.
Anyway this time I will be calling my insurance - but this is a first for me and am wondering how soon do I tell them - do I do it after I get all the work done, plumber, plasterer, carpet replaced etc etc. Thanks for any advice.

Direct Line arranged for a company to come out, assess and expose the damaged area.
The same day another crew appeared with dehumidifier and massive fan. Those ran most of the day for two weeks costing about £75 which was reimbursed.
We then asked for a cheque for the amount quoted by their builders and got our own in.
I'm sure most insurance companies do the same sort of thing BUT, you have to phone them, I don't know if they make allowances for folk who can't be harassed to ring.
It'll only take five minutes to get the ball rolling.
