People suggesting that May somehow planned to throw the election are ignoring the fact that Labour could not possibly have won an outright majority based on the seats they went into it with. Of course, Labour did very well. Far better than any of the projections had them doing. But they lost so many seats in 2015 that the mountain to climb was just too steep to have them win outright. Which immediately renders any plan to throw the election as completely implausible.
The question of this election was always how big May's majority would be. Or, to put it another way, how many wavering Labour supporters and disenfranchised UKIP voters the Tories could hoover up. And, because Theresa May is an incompetent liar with no backbone, no principles and no loyalty, she managed to come out with no majority at all.
Stupidity is always a more plausible explanation than malice, and this case is no exception. May b@ggered up the election because she is an awful leader and catastrophically underestimated her opponent.
