we have to pay £1.40 oaps £1. 80 anyone else for a garden waste bag , then today went to local recycling centre and was charged £2.50 a bucket to get rid of some dirt (4 buckets) but the next town get bins free for garden waste .just having a moan x
My council has excellent facilities manned by helpful staff. The only real fly in the ointment is that they've cut back opening hours, both winter and summer.
We also get an uplift of grass, plants, hedge clippings and dead flowers and plants once a month.
They even lift real Christmas trees.
Compost made from stuff collected is available free of charge to residents.
The argument for paying extra for garden waste disposal is simple....those that have gardens and want the service can pay....those that don't have gardens (or don't want that service) don't pay. I think it's fair.
I've had this issue out with our local Council Mallyh, we as rate payers have the duty to take their garden Soil / Garden Old brick etc then the charge us, I said do you wonder why people FLY TIP, you are causing the Fly Tipping issue, I might have talked to the wall.
We must be very lucky here then. We have a green bin (along with a black and a grey) for garden/green rubbish which gets emptied by the council every fortnight - no extra charge over and above our Council Tax.
We also have two Council tips with 6 miles to which we can take absolutely anything, free of charge, apart from you have to sort it into the correct containers.
We have 4 Wheelie bins here. Land fill, Plastic and cans, Cardboard and paper and the brown garden and food waste bin. All free and a tip 2 miles away that takes every thing including paint and car tyres. They get emptied on a 2 weekly cycle which is enough for just the 2 of us
Well where i live we pay £25 to get the garden waste bin and then after that £50 a year. I think its well worth every penny and they come and empty it every fortnight all year round. Its surprising how much garden waste it holds, no more trips to the rubbish dump.T hey wont however take garden soil.
mallyh....I'm the one who said that I think that having to make a payment "is fair"....and, to answer your question, yes I do have to pay....£35 a year for a large wheelie bin - emptied every two weeks.
