Toshiba Digital Tv Recorder

My tv recorder has stopped working. It has a circular light which shows red when switched on and turns blue shortly afterwards. Lately the red light has come on when power is switched on and nothing else happens. A display on the recorder shows " starting " but nothing occurs. can anyone offer an explanation or a solution ? I would be greatly appreciated.

I suspect the hard disk. And even more so when reading the manual.

In the troubleshooting it says if it takes a long time to start up the hard disk is full - so I suspect that the disk might be failing - there is a toshiba support forum and phonenumber listed in the manual.
