I think he was an ambassador or foreign service type before he became Chairman of Migration watch. why was he knighted?? And how come his views are not considered racist??

Green and his ilk would argue that they are not against people on the basis of skin colour or ethnic background, but purely on the basis of their motives for coming to the UK, i.e, being "economic migrants." One of the things anti-immigration groups often say is that they cannot be considered "racist" because they want to stop white Eastern Europeans from coming into the UK as well as Asians, Africans etc. There is of course an argument to be had about what exactly constitutes "racism." Are nationalities the same as "races?" Is a French person a member of the "French race" even though s/he might look exactly like a white British person? As for green's knighthood, it's anybody's guess as to why. He may have given a large sum of cash to a political party, which seems to be the thing to do if you want an hnour these days 9and probably before too!)
