Uk Restraining Order

I have a restraining order against my ex boyfriend who went to prison for domestic violence. It covers lots of things about electronic contact, social media and forums and says he can't come within "x" of where I reside. However recently we were coincidentally at the same place and he walked intentionally right up to me to speak to the person next to me. I was terrified and scampered away. He clearly did it on purpose to scare me and it worked. The word "reside" is my issue as I take it to mean where I live. The victim is not consulted on the wording and whilst I understand that he cannot be expected to leave a place if I am there and I have a duty of care to myself, I did not feel protected by the order on this occasion. I wondered if there was a way of varying it to say cannot APPROACH within x metres. I contacted victim support who could not help. Thanks.

Did the order say "Must not contact, directly or indirectly, Ms Beatrix"?

f so, it could be argued (though probably with some difficulty) that he did "contact" you.
