I turn 75 in early August this year.
I have always paid my fee over 12 months by standing order.
I am aware over 75 means no licence fee is due.
Can I just cancel my standing order with the bank to BBC and that's it?

I would think if you cancelled it right now, then that would be ok, but don't quote me on that.

A very happy birthday to you when the day arrives xx
To be safe, cancel it after your birthday.
you need to apply for a free over 75 license - you might as well as do that now

If you’re about to turn 75, please do not cancel your Direct Debit or any other payment for your TV Licence. Once we’ve sent you confirmation of your over 75 TV Licence, we’ll cancel your Direct Debit for you.
If we cancel your Direct Debit after your 75th birthday – and you end up overpaying – we will refund you for the difference.
cor, you live and learn.

Never knew you needed to apply, wonder how many folk don't know that?
This must be a unique thread, we all agree. :o)
No, phone them now and they will adjust your direct debits so you don't pay more than you should. Do not just cancel your DDs
Hopefully you won't get any bullying letters from BBC telling you to buy a licence. It's more common than it should be.
i had a bullying email from them yesterday bullying me into have an online license sent to me instead of a paper one
went online some months back to tell 'em I don't have a tv.
Had to choose an option from drop-down box and none of them applied to my situation.
However, they'll send me a rminder in 2 years time just in case I have a new tv.

Ridiculous.

It's not really the Beeb is it - don't they have a side-kick which bullies folk into paying for a licence?
I've had many, many of them sent to me (renovating empty house) Obviously didn't bother me but the wife was terrorised by them.
Initially I could understand them sending one but no amount of communication seemed to put their mind at rest that a licence was not needed.
But the actual letters I am referring to were sent to a 82 year old neighbour ... it was distressing for me to see the state she was in just imagine how distressing it was for her.
Even though I have said it happens more than it should I'm sure you will have no problems, needawin. (I'm not trying to scare you)
that stinks Talby.

Many moons ago, mum's pal's daughter moved into her own flat.
Didn't have a tv.
TV folk came a knocking.
She told them she didn't have a tv, they replied ' can we come in and check?'
she told them no and closed the door.
