Could it be The Blob? Originally made in 1958 starring Steve McQueen, remade in 1988 with Kevin Dillon and apparently due for another remake in 2007 (don't know who's going to be in thie one).

As I've said before on here - will the last person in Hollywood to have an original idea please turn out the lights?

Very true, bob. It's been some time since I've been to the cinema, but I can't help noticing the number of remakes being advertised lately - King Kong, Superman, When A Stranger Calls, The Manchurian Candidate, The Wicker Man...there seem to be more than ever, and that's not even staring on the Americanisation of Japanese films (The Ring, The Grudge, One Missed Call etc etc).
