My Father Has Had A Really Bad Ecg Sent Straight To The Doctor Freaking Out

My father went to the nurse at GP practice for an ECG this morning and he came out of the nurse and was told he had to see the doctor in 5 minutes as his ECG was very fast, irregular and abnormal. I think it might be rapid AF. I am praying it is. Mums phone is turned off and I am beginning to freak out. On the plus side the doctor he is seeing trained under the chief physician in Scotland a cardiologist. And thank goodness it has been caught on tape so hopefully he will be on a betablocker and warfarin straight away. I am thinking logically here if it was a heart attack surely they would ring 999 rather than wait for the doctor.

Don't panic gordie.......a heart attack is the last thing to cause that ECG pattern.

Mum just phoned he has been put on rivoroxaban 20mg and bisoporol 5mg and been referred urgently to cardiology. The great thing about this is that it is PAF and they got it on the ECG he is home now and told to take things easy, was due to go down to England next week on train to babysit my neiece and nephews but told not to go. And they were due to go on holiday to Crete first week in september for 2 weeks he has been advised to cancel that and will get a note.And of course no driving still, I am so glad I told doctors last week. Are you not allowed to fly with PAF? I have PAF and I am on Rivoroxaban 20mg and Bisoporol 10mg every day. I still go into and out of it a few times a day but the rater is always less than 80 I dont worry about it now. But he gave me a scare this morning.

Flying with PAF.
Yes, of it is the commonest type of PAF, but your Dad needs to have further tests to pin-point the cause.
Until that time.......he is better not to fly.

woofgang believe you me it is extremely tempting to email my sister especially and tell her that, but I think as I am getting older I am getting a bit more mellow and tactful, but only just a bit !!! lol

it sounds Gordie that he has flipped into rather permanent AF

Mine was 145 at presentation and I didnt feel that chipper
Beta blocker- Nebivolol is very sell tolerated and will bring it down in 24 h ( usually ) and yup it is all rivaroxaban and not warfarin nowadays ( one tab a day and no clinic )

there is a family hx - I dont remember you mentioning that
yeah PAF - runs in my family too - first attack aged 19 - which I kept quiet about - and there comes a time when it becomes permanent

I went to Egypt when they were threatening me with a bone marrow transplant - on the grounds that if I didnt do it then I might never do it Did I worry about catching an awful tropical disease and croaking ? Blimey life is too short worrying about that sort of thing

"there isnt any"

You know what PP I really cannot be bothered - but it stands to reason that as Gordie's father has not yet been seen by the specialist and is just at the start of his diagnosis that they not do something that may put a strain on his body!

But I am sure you know exactly what they should do so I will leave you to it!
