We went to a well known café that we always use today, I had a simple fry & so did my wife, I drink black Coffee my wife tea, her tea came in a little tea pot and she poured, I noticed the spout was looking dirty & opened the lid, the rim was black & the inside a very dark colour, the waitress came to collect the empty plated & I said, the tea pot was a disgrace, it bleached & in this condition should not have been used, my wife was not pleased by what I'd said, s I right?

Got to agree with everyone else TWR, I would never bleach anything I ate off or out of, for sure it kills germs but then you're eating and drinking minute residues of bleach and if you've got a half sensible immune system and you're a clean person and clean regularly surely you just don't need it. I was told never to wash a teapot ( Irish Dad) just rinse it. Just looked and my teapot is a disgrace- but it's staying that way :)

Just interesting whilst on abut this, what would AB members do if you went into a café / Pub / Restaurant & finding bits of food on you Knife / Fork, would you complain & make a fuss or have a quite word with the waiter?
That's different and I would have a very discreet word and ask for clean ones, I certainly wouldn't kick up a fuss, that's just ill mannered.
That's different, TWR.
1st i'd see if it would wipe clean on the napkin, if not, i'd politely ask the waiter/ress to replace it.
quoiz point

your wife wanted to go back there
and you didnt !
depends on whether the food on the knife was me or not

yeah ask for a clean knife or throw it on the floor - erm discretely and ask for a clean one....

international problem -dining in - somewhere and some Fransh came in and one loudly announced " J'espere que les canifs ne sont pas salles!" -
Obviously didn't speak French well or he would have known that 'canif' means penknife. The word he couldn't get is'couteau'
Perhaps it is my imagination but I always think that tea can taste quite bitter from a badly stained pot.

Accordingly, for those who may agree with me :-

Hans.
I put my teapot in the dishwasher when it needs more than a rinse
I was thinking the same thing, no one seemed to mention a dishwasher until Puzzled 54.
