Has he got one of those playmats with roads on? My son loved his when he was that age, he was really into cars too. He also had a garage. He was delighted when he got new cars, especially if he hadn't already got those models! Other than that how about some playfood for the kitchen. Sorry joeygreen, but neither of my boys were mad keen on Thomas The Tank Engine, they'd watch the video sometimes and did have a couple of related toys, but couldn't say that they were over keen!
My lad could never have too many cars. He liked taking them with him everywhere and one of his favourite presents was a plastic tool box divided into sections that he could put his cars in. Either that or the Top Gear Winter Olympics DVD I haven't met a boy yet from 2 to 90 who hasn't thought it was the best ever!!
The play mat with roads is a good idea if he hasn't got one -
Or maybe a simple remote control car - my son got one for his 3rd birthday and loved it, he spent ages trying to get it to go in the direction he wanted and was so pleased when he did it himself. Then spent days chasing everyone with it!!
There also really good for hand/eye coordination etc - so you could convice yourself it was 'educational' too!!
