Stone Flag Roof
1 Answers
Hi, we have a small (2 up 2 down) stone cottage with a stone flag roof. It has a breathable membrane under it. The loft is dry. I have recently noticed what looks like a leaking gutter, but I have just had the gutters repaired, when I asked the guy that repaired them he said he had noticed the leak but it wasnt the gutter...he thinks it me be water coming straight off the membrane which may either be damaged or slightly over hanging the gutter. I have had a quick look (from an upstairs windows) and the membrane seems to be tucked in to the gutter but feels damp on the underside...I ended up with algae on my hands from fiddling with it....this may be a daft question but should water be even getting onto the membrane or is it just doing what its there for. Thanks in advance

Best practice is to fit a hard plastic eaves drip to discharge into the gutter. The felt is cut short, and sits on the plastic, up under the bottom row of slates. It protects it from wet, and more importantly, ultra violet rays.
