According to the DM, ice cream vans are dying out due to double glazing making it difficult to gear them.
They must be joking. The ones around here are SO loud, and can be heard from several blocks away. Besides, they come at set times and the kids certainly know when that is...every day.
When we moved to the Uk from Canada my daughter had never heard an ice cream van...
When the first one arrived in our street and she heard the sound I told her it was a mobile church and whenever she heard it she had to close her eyes, put her hands together and pray 'til it had disappeared.....x
There is an ice cream van sited outside my workplace and one that goes up and down the beach near my house. I've never heard one play a tune.
I don't think I've heard one anywhere for years.
It used to be exciting to hear the tune and rush to ask your mum for a few pence to buy an ice cream - or cider lolly.
Haven't heard one in years. I thought with supermarkets and deep freezers at home there wasn't a call for them these days.
I have to say I love ice cream and eat some most days.
